Sometimes we find in life
that everywhere we look, there is darkness. We drown in the weight of
tragedy and darkness tightens it’s grip…we find it hard to breath…my
life had become a suffocating black
But don’t despair there can
be many levels of darkness and many levels of consciousness. Wasn’t it
Lao-tsu who said, “Yet mystery and imagination arise from the same
source. This source is called darkness….Darkness within darkness, the
gateway to all understanding.”
Lao tsu was right. I had
achieved a level of understanding that most who have not been to this
place cannot comprehend. I had begun to heal, had to heal and art
would be my cure.
While dreams have influenced
some of my pieces I have to say that nature has been my mentor and
life has been my medium.
The aim of every
artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold
it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it
moves again since it is life.
